How do I obtain a license for my dog?

Posted: Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Dog licenses are available in the Health Department and are renewed annually after January 1st regardless of date issued. Licenses renewed after March 1st will be assessed a $10.00 late fee. You may apply through the mail or in person. Applications are available at the Health Department or can be downloaded from the Clifton website at

A valid rabies vaccination is required for licensing as per N.J.A.C. 8:23 A 4.1. Licenses will not be issued unless the rabies vaccine is current through October 31st of the current year for a 1yr license and through October 31st of the third year for a 3yr license. Proof of the dog being spayed/neutered is also required, unless it is already on file.
