Employment Opportunities

The Personnel Office is located on the first floor of City Hall. The City of Clifton is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applications are accepted by the Personnel Office from all qualified individuals regardless of race, color, sex, or ethic origin.

Applications for non competitive Civil Service titles, such as clerk, clerk typist, and laborer are accepted only during the last week of July and the first week of August. Applications are accepted for the position of Clifton School Crossing Guard and Public Safety Telecommunicator on an ongoing basis. Temporary/Seasonal positions are recruited as they occur.

Opening and testing times for Police and Firefighter positions are advertised in area newspapers when an examination is scheduled by the New Jersey Department of Personnel.

Consideration for employment requires that the applicant be a resident of Passaic County or Essex County and reside within a 15 mile radius of the City on the date of their appointment.
