The Department of Human Services was created by the City Manager and approved by
the Mayor and Municipal Council under a plan for the reorganization of municipal
departments effective July 1, 1996. This new division which incorporates the Health
Department, Recreation Department, Senior Citizen Program, and Welfare Department
is an attempt to more effectively and efficiently serve the human services needs
of the citizens of Clifton. The Recreation Department was divided with the Maintenance
Division being transferred to the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Works
and the program division under the Department of Human Services. The Director of
Human Services acts as the Health Officer and supervises the Health Department staff.
In addition, the director supervises the Recreation Division which is headed by
a Recreation Supervisor, the Senior Citizen Program which is headed by a Program
Supervisor and the Welfare program which provides services to Clifton residents
through a contract with the Passaic County Department of Social Services.
