Streets & Roads
The City of Clifton has approximately 200 total miles of highways, streets, road and avenues. Of these, approximately 150 miles are owned and maintained by the City of Clifton The remaining highways and roads are owned and maintained by Passaic County, or the State of New Jersey.
The Clifton City Council has annually authorized and funded a program to improve City streets. Streets are selected for improvement each year based upon need and available funds. In 2000, every City-owned streets was visually inspected for it’s entire length and it’s condition was given a rating based upon thirteen defect categories. The ratings for all streets are compiled in a report entitled CITY OF CLIFTON, STREET PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT STUDY dated October 2000. This report is used to select the street with the lowest rating (most in need of repair) for improvement.
